RX-7 88 Turbo Exhaust

Hey everyone,

I found this post but it was over 5 years old so I thought I would ask again.

https://www.rx7club.com/2nd-generation-specific-1986-1992-17/who-makes-good-3in-exhaust-my-tii-110717/

I have a 10th Anniversary with 110,000 with a newly rebuilt engine. The Exhaust is in really bad shape so I wanted to replace it from front to back. The rebuild has about 2000 miles.

I was looking at this kit http://racingbeat.com/resultset.asp?PartNumber=16425 but wanted to know if there was a newer and maybe cheaper alternative to replace the entire exhaust. I am also worried about putting to much stress on the new rebuild. I also wanted to know if I went with a different option if I would still need the extra part they mention to stop the fuel cut off.

Any advice would be really helpful.

Thanks!

Do you want to replace the whole exhaust or a section of it? With this exhaust you need some support mods, you can't just bolt it on.

Yea, I want to replace the entire exhaust all the way from the turbo back. I have already pulled the old exhaust off.

why would I need mods for that exhaust? It says it is a full bolt on and uses the original mounting points.

Thanks!

If you were plan to boost more or get a FCD (Fuel Cut Defender) with this exhaust to boost 3-4psi over the stock, you might want to port your stock turbo wastegate, get larger injectors, better fuel comp, and have a way to control those larger injectors. Why port the wastegate? The stock wastegate is 12mm in diameter, and if you were to boost more you will boost creep. Boost creeping is uncontrollable boost when under boosting. Example you are intended to boost 8psi and it just jumps up to 14psi uncontrollably. Why larger injectors? The higher you boost, the more fuel is required to correct the A/F ratio, other wise you will fuel starve and lean out and pop your motor. Why a upgraded fuel pump? Our Stock fuel pump is not sufficient enough to supply more than our stock injectors at higher fuel pressure (when fuel is in demand), thus you will fuel starve and lean out. Final question, why do you need a a fuel computer or a way to control the fuel? Well 1st of with upgraded injectors and on stock ECU programming your car will run really shitty and super rich. With either a rtek chipped ecu which have a preloaded map that is corrected for larger injectors and retard the timing. With the SAFCII or SAFC/Neo you can adjust these setting yourself and you fine tune it.

ok, so if I get the FCD it will work ok.

How about if I just wanted to replace it with a better performing exchaust with the precat back? Who should I buy it from? I noticed a lot of the online dealers list the precat as a cat so I am having problems finding one spot to get it all from.

Thanks again for your help!

I got the turbo-back single exit exhaust from SA Autochrome. It's 3" all the way back, and was under $300 shipped to my door. Fitment was pretty good, and it sounded good. Just giving you another suggestion, as it is a lot cheaper.

The down pipe replaces the precat, most catback exhaust are from the main cat and back.
If you want to replace the whole exhaust you either get a Racing Beat REV TII turbo back or go to RX7.com to order a bonez downpipe, midpipe, cat combo and get any other catback of your choice.

or you can get a Corksport down pipe to a cat to a any other catback.

or build your own, like I'll most likely end up doing. I think I'll stick a small muffler in to supplant the midpipe.

veedubbed, thanks for the reply. I wasn't aware of this system. Is this the one you are talking about for $249?

http://www.ssautochrome.com/level.itml/icOid/1482

Why is it so inexpensive? It is definitely more attractive than the $950 solution I was looking at.

One thing I did notice is that there is a vacuum line that comes down to my stock cat and I don't see a connection for that on this cat. How is that handled? Is that line even needed?

Thanks again!
