rust under the battery, anyone make replacement sheetmetal?
After pulling the battery tray out I discovered this... I am able to rebuild the area but I would love to be able to find a repair section to use. Any ideas?

I was putting pics on my second post when you replied. It is a base model car, no power at all. It has only a couple other problems that are easy fixes, the floor on the rear outboard passenger seat mount has a bit of rot and the right rear quarter has a bubble behind the wheel. Both spots are minor. The car was purchased for the engine, we are going rotary in my brothers Bug and this shell I am planning on a V8.

Well that is a bit narrow minded, wouldn't you say? Both of those are options and I have studied the logistics of both, I am a Chrysler guy (don't laugh, my turbo cars used to beat up on the rotaries...lol...and the V-8s) and I have been looking at doing a new hemi as well. The LS series would be easy as it has been done countless times. I haven't dedicated to anything yet, the Bug swap will be getting done first, then start getting parts for this.

I think if you check the FAQ for the chassis and body parts catalog, you can get the part number for that sheet metal. I think. Whether it is still available at Mazda, I don't know.
That is quite bad, and looks like a ***** to repair properly. If the patch panel isn't available, then some work with sheet metal and tin snips will do the job. But since the rust goes through several layers, have fun.

I totally agree that it is a big job. Not too big for my expertise, but a pain none the less. It is entirely in front of the suspension mounting points so not structural to that.
Ok, found a part number. Thank you, now just have to call Mazda and see if they still have parts for a 22 year old car...

I realize it's an old thread, but I didn't find any other threads regarding this subject. I did start a new thread in the new member area with pics of my car here: https://www.rx7club.com/new-member-r...7-tii-1020955/
Hoping some other people have dealt with this issue and can provide some help with how to fix it.
