Angry rust

i have rust eating away at my body, or my cars anway. its getting bad behind both rear tires on the outer rim of the wheel cut out (sorry, dont know the technical term) and a little bit on the front of the sideskirt. i doubt there is an easy cheap way to fix it. i have no money, but im still interested to know what would need to be done to get rid of it. thanks as always.

this is a common spot for most cars to start rusting, the only thing i can think that you can do to help stop the spread of rust is to sand down any rust spots, make sure you sand it very well or else it will rust from underneath. than fill it with body filler, than sand it down. than you can spray primer (few cotes) and than paint(few coats as well), this will look kinda nasty cause your not going to be able to match the paint.
this is only temporary until you get in to get a body shop
it will evetually start rusting from their again, but this will slow it down

The only way to really get rid of rust is to cut out the metal... but that's a little harsh. Like rice eater said, just sand the tar out of it, f ill with bondo, and you're set to go!

A grinder, lots of sand paper, body filler, some sheet metal, hammers, anvil, paint supplies and a mig welder.

Most rust on cars is just surface. It hasnt gotten thru the metal so you can usually just sand it off, acid wipe it, etching primer it and paint. Remember to scuff with sand paper (like 200 or 400 grit) between all coats of primer/paint.

the grinder and a Ramones CD is a good start. Here in the extreme rustbelt I like to use Coreless (spelling)
it is a red primer material rust inhibitor. Works very well isolates the rust so it won't spread. Have it on my 78 Datsun Pick-up and it had done a good job for 5 years.
Do anything you can to rust is better than nothing.

You can't just sand down and bondo the area. It will start rusting again. You need to isolate the rust completely. There are a bunch of rust inhibitors at the parts store. Get a quality one and not something from Wal-Mart. 3M Rust Fighter is pretty good . After sanding as much as you can, coat the area with rust inhibitors and follow the instructions. I used it on a small area that needing treating before it spread and rust hasn't formed yet.
You cannot rush the process so take your time.

POR 15 is a good rust removal product if you have not lost too much metal, better than rustoleum, here's the website http://www.por15.com/

ZERORUST is a better product IMHO, and not as nasty to use as POR-15
