Question Runs hott on 85mph?

Alright I am looking at buying a Turbo II 1989 RX-7, however the seller told me once you hit 85mph, it begins to run hott a bit espicially since we live in Texas. Is there any components that I could look for to solve this problem and keep the engine cool. Or should I take my search for my first car elsewhere if it is too expensive or just not a good value? The car is selling for $3400 with a 100k on the car.

Thermostat would be suspect at this point. Also make sure the undertray is installed.

radiator should be absorbing lots of air at 85mph... it could be really clogged up though.

it is probably a clogged/faulty radiator. 100-200 bucks and it will be cold as ice....or an oven....or something.

You could probably get yours cleaned for well under $100 if you take it out yourself and take it to a shop. You don't necessarily need a new one, they can be professionally cleaned and used again.

As said, you could clean it yourself, or if you arent a DIY guy, just have it done. If I remember correctly it will run about 40-50 dollars. If it turns out cleaning doesn't solve the problem, you can get a used radiator from the junkyard for about $50-$100. Another option is to just splurge and go all out for an aftermarket radiator. The choice is yours, but in the end I don't see you paying more than $250 to be in good shape with your cooling.

my 88 vert had a leaking rad cap, and I wound up needing a rad.... aftermarket at Goodyear installed was $400

then my probs began, seemed like a bad fan clutch. car was running 3/4 at 80 also, so Cartek has pinned the fan and when I get it back will see if it helps.

poor car has been at cartek more than here, but I am still glad I got it even though I can no longer afford food.
