running a smaller battery on our FC

Found this on the 3rd gen section:

https://www.rx7club.com/forum/showth...hreadid=142932

Im considering installing one in my 87TII. I have a front mount and i will need to relocate my batt. But i might be able to get away with it if i can use one of this little babies. I went to Mazdatrix and one of the guy told me about using small batteries and he told me that they drain pretty fast. And that they are not long lasting.. Anyone use this batts in their FCs??..

Im considering the PC925.. any comments???..

I'd like to see if it'll work. I say go for it, and if it doesn't work, sell it to a honda guy.

You need to discuss it w/ the 3rd gen guys on this forum to decide if it is worth it for you. They do FMICs, horizontal mounts and x-large stock mounts constantly and run into your problem- they have experience.

Basically, does your engine start the 1st time, every time, w/ no flooding? Do you mind waiting to get a jump the 1st time doesn't start right up? Do you mind replacing the battery much more often? Do you hate to use electrical accessories when the engine isn't running?

Then MAYBE a minature battery is the answer.

I say relocate it and get the weight down and back in the car while you are at it- you can always go for a smaller, lighter relocated battery if you want to try the little ones.

My plan is to relocate a smaller sealed gel design battery to where the passenger side muffler used to be.

I've designed a stainless steel tray for the FD and sold about 70 of them. I just got doing the one for the FC. I've got the prototype being made right now.

I'll be starting a group buy in the Group buy section very soon. Pricing will depend on quanity but will range from ~$45-55 ea depending on how many people sign up.

The battery I use is the 51R. It is a standard lead-acid battery that fits in the stock location. The 51R is a Honda Civic sized battery and works great for starting FDs even if they have been flooded. The advantage to using it is you get to drop 10lbs from the NOSE of the car. It also frees up some room for FMIC piping. FCs are getting older and it seems many of the stock trays are disintegrating badly.

This is a bolt in solution, no cutting or mods are required. Buy new tray (includes tie-downs) and new battery and your set.

PM me if your interested and keep your eyes out for a group buy.

If your interested in more info, do a search on the 51R, you'll see pics and customer comments. Fit is PERFECT. The trays are professionally made, laser cut and welded. Designed on CAD, this is NOT a homemade looking product.

Thanks,
Jeff

I have one about the size of a motorcycle in my turbo ii. It starts just fine, but after like 15-20s of cranking its dead. If your car has any starting issues I would not recommend you get one

TURBOJEFF- i will definitely consider the tray you are making. How is the 51R compare to the PC925s??..WHen i went back to recheck the clearance if i have to use the 925s it looks like i still have an issue with the height of the battery. W and L is not a problem but the Height is what's giving me the problem. If i get the PC925s The IC pipe will barely clear the batt..
