Red face Running Rich....

Well I have 2 cars actually running incredably rich. I have a 88 non turbo with pretty much no emissions equiptment on it, and a 88 turbo 2 i just bought that has some of it hooked up(not much though) Both when i sit in traffic make my eyes run and the turbo is really horrible. Neither have catalyst. Is there anyway to get them to run less rich? I am at least trying to get the turbo 2 to run clean enough to where i wont die from lung cancer from the fumes. The turbo has the BAC valve, the normal sensors hooked up, the egr valve and solenoid, the twin scroll solenoid, and the fuel press reg solenoid. It has some of the crankcase stuff hooked up. Should i mess with the airflow meter? I kinda have messed with the idle speed and the mixture resistor screw on the right shock tower. Help please?

are you sure they're running really rich? it could just be since you have no cats.

if you're sure its running rich, maybe get a new O2 sensor? and a tune up.

The GXL runs about 3000 hydrocarbons at idle and clears up a bit more when it is reved.. it also has an intermittent power problem but anyway the turbo smells way worse than the GXL and smells like unburned gas... and does a magnificent job at burning my eyes when i get near it. the turbo i need to put the plugs and wires in and the non turbo has magnecores and b8ev NGKs

If you have comfirmed you have done a FULL tune up and verified you have no electrical/mechanical breakdown, than I would look Into getting a S-AFC. From here, you could lean It out 'til your heart desires.

Check your injectors, and see if they have any cracks or slpits in them. If they don't get the cleaned and balanced. Most of rich or flooding problems comes from leaking injectors, as it was in my case!

Yes! Go to your nearest Mazda dealer and order some new injector seals. The ones on there are probably hardened and leak. Also look into getting your injectors cleaned. That should fix up most of your problems. It did for me anyways

Anyone know of any injector rebuilders that are cheap and do a good job?

The engines like to idle rich.&nbsp If you've got no emissions, there is no guarantee you can't get rid of all the eye-watering stench.

Check the charcol filter and see if one of the lines is blocked. Normaly when you smell unburned gas in side the car that will have something to do w/ it, since it sits so close to the cabin.

I find that when you have the windows up, putting the vents on recycled air will eliminate the stench. When Im cruising I have it on fresh air. WHen I know I will be at a light for more than 3 minutes I switch it to recycled air.

It smells like I have cats.
