I have a 87 GXL with 181,378 mile but has good compression. I was wondering if I can run NOS and what kind of kit how big of a shot, install time tools needed,(can I do it myself). The mods on the car already are HKS cold air intake, 550cc sec injectors, header with 3in collector, 3in mandual bent exhaust with 3inch cat to y pipe, 2.5in y pipe into 2.5in dyno max bullet race mufflers.

50-shot is about as big as I would go.

Your exhaust is way too big for everyday NA driving - you're losing a lot of low end torque due to the overly large exhaust piping.

I agree with reted. You could do a 100 shot of NOS if you got more fuel into the motor. Probably use a wet Nos system and an additional fuel pump.

 

stick with 50 if any. Yes you can install it yourself if you are decent with tools. There are two different systems, wet and dry. I won't go into detail, but you should find out what would be better for your needs. fc3s.org has an installation write-up on a nos kit if I remember correctly.

 

what are the dangers of using a 50-shot on a stock engine, with 107,000 miles and good compression? Can my stock drivetrain handle the extra power if I only use it above 4000 rpms? I would probably only use it every once in a while, but I dont want my engine to die if I only use it a few times. It seems like a realitively inexpensive way to boost hp, but if it will kill my engine it is not worth it.
