RTV as intake manifold gaskets?? O.K.?
Just about to reinstall the manifolds - lower, upper and plenum. Is it okay to use RTV for the interfaces instead of buying the Mazda gaskets?

I needed a fix asap after a coolant line busted and I removed the manifold. I have had RTV as the gasket for a few months and have had no adverse reactions. but next time im in there Ill order a paper gasket before hand.

I'd use some caution as mentioned above. I overhauled the engine of the dude around the block and when I pulled the upper intake manifold, eeeeek! Buggers hanging over the edge into the bores just waiting to fall off someday.
That said, I use RTV all the time. Like the upper manifold gasket. Put a light smear of RTV on the top of the gasket where it mates with the bare metal of the upper intake manifold. Then put a light smear of vaseline on the metal mating surface of the upper manifold.
That way when you go to remove the upper someday in the future, the gasket won't stick to the upper manifold surface and tear. You can use that same gasket over and over and over and over if you do that with the RTV. The smear acts like a release agent to keep the gasket from sticking to the upper.

Keep Right Except to Pass
I use Hylomar on both seating surfaces along with a gasket. It's even called "gasket dressing & flange sealant". No more gasket scraping for me either.

hylomar is the best non-paper gasket maker for intakes IMO. It seals well but doesn't leave the typical RTV bead sticking past the joint obstructing the runners.
