Which rtek chip should I get?

I plan on getting a rtek chip for my turbo II, but I'm having a hard time tryin to decide which one to get. They have two that I'm tryin to choose between. The "1.7 version" (about $135) and the "2.0 version" (about $400). I thought about getting the 1.7 and using a S-AFC with it, but the with the 2.0 version I can tune it myself with a PDA, it allows you to tune ignition timing and fuel... which one to get which one to get.... hmmmmm.

1.7 chip----- http://www.pocketlogger.com/index.php?pid=rtek7feat

2.0 chip----- http://www.pocketlogger.com/index.php?pid=rtek7v2feat

Or you can buy/build a Megasquirt for less money, have 100x more tuneability, and the ability to control any electronic in your car..

This is true... Depends on where you live, and what/who you know... Not everyone has the willingness to learn the program, and/or the need for alot of adjustments they'll never use... Also whether there is anyone in the area who is willing to tune it for them... In those cases, the Rtek 2.0 would be a better option... Less downtime too, because it's pretty much a bolt-in ECU upgrade... Don't forget, that Rtek is working on making a patch available for the 2.0 eventually, that will eliminate the AFM...

Well yeah. But I figure it'd be best to give him the OPTION, before shelling out the money for something that might not suit his needs. Sure, if he is unable to build/tune a MS, by all means go for an Rtek. And eliminating the AFM still won't make it an EMS >.>

It's actually pretty simple and you can answer your own question.

1.7 Lightly to medium modified
2.0 medium to highly modified

Take a second to think about what you have in the way of mods and decide or post your mods and let us decide for you.

Hmmm, I haven’t thought about using a MS. I haven’t heard a whole lot about those but I was under the impression that they weren’t that good.

I could really probably pretty much go either way as far as mods go, I was just wondering if the 2.0 was worth a ****/as good as it sounds like it is. I didn’t wanna get it and be disappointed. I just basically has some stuff in mind to do it, I haven’t got anything done yet. I was just gonna get about 850-1000cc injectors, I have a friend that owns a turbo shop and he gave me a ported compressor housing with a wheel to fit it so I was gonna rebuild the turbo with that. The car has a downpipe back exhaust on it, but its shitty lol. I want to get a w/b, a MBC and that’s really all I have planned for it right now that I can think about.

There is a thread floating around with feedback pertaining to the 2.0. IMO if I had to spend 400.00 to tune the car with palm pilot I would rather have saved for a haltech or megasquirt....

I have a S-AFC I. You think I should jsut get a 1.7 and use my S-AFC? I guess I could do that and if I want to, I can always upgrade to teh 2.0.

i just sold my safc and fcd to get a rtek 2.0. I'd rather everything go through the stock ecu, and be controlled by one device (pda), that I can stick in the glove box when not being used. The 2.0 from what I'm hearing is pretty sweet. fuel, timing control, built in fcd, build in fuel pump kill for hot start problems, you can view any engine sensor errors in plain english...no need to pull codes. It comes with 2 preprogrammed settings...one for stock 550/550 injectors and one map for 550/720 injectors...etc etc.

I hadn't heard about the possibility of being able to do away with the AFM...that'd be pretty sweet.

The biggest problems i've heard about so far are minor glitches in the software, but digital tuning seems to be really good about fixing these as soon as they're reported.

I'm in the same boat right now. I have a safc installed with a rtek1.7 sitting in my room (waiting to get 720s). I was thinking of selling the SAFC2 and upgrading the rtek to a 2.0
As far as mods go I have a ssautochrome exhaust, 3"intake, fd fuel pump, crane cam ign on leading coil, and a fcd.
