rpm difference while coasting

I appologize if this is the wrong forum for this question but I don't know if it's a 2nd gen thing or a general automotive thing.

Why is that when I'm driving down the road in my rx7 and I push down on the clutch my rpm's drop all the way down to 750rpm, however when I do the same thing in my four cylinder my rpm's don't drop all the way down to normal idling level. They hang a little higher depending on how fast I'm going.

Just a curious thing I noticed and I was wondering why the difference in reaction between my 7 and my 4-banger.

If you push the clutch but keep the gas pedal in the same position, the RPM of the engine should shoot up to redline quickly. Are you sure you're not letting go of the gas at the same time?

Your 4 cylinder might have a dashpot, which delays the throttle from closing. The RX7 has one too, but it is common practice for people to remove them for some odd reason...

No gas applied.

Basically I'm just letting the engine idle, while the car is moving. I just noticed that my 7 idles at normal idle speed while all other vehicles I've driven (all cylinder motors) idle at rates higher than normal, based on how fast the vehicle was moving. (If I was going slow ie: approaching a stop light it would idle a slight amount above normal, but if I was on a highway it would idle about 1000rpm above normal.)
I thought it might have something to do with wind on the fly wheel or something like that.

the flywheel is inside the tranny housing no wind is hitting it. what you seeing is normal, at least for all 7's i've been in and many other cars. but look at your throttle and see if the dashpot is missing or damaged like arron suggested

Sounds like completely normal behaviour. Your other car is the odd one.
