rough idle, bad hesitation over 5-6k HELP

I started my car(89 gxl) up this afternoon and it was idling really wierd, it was really rough so it may have been stupid to rev it right then but I did, just to see what happened and it was really really rough the whole car shook bad. as soon as it warmed up it was fine, I thought. so then I went to go apply for job at this garage and my friend was following and I decided to get on it well, as soon as i got to 7k the engine quit pulling and just stayed at 7k even though I had the pedal all the way down. wtf? never had this problem b4. I've always shifted at 8k and was fine.

Check your AFM connection...How's your compression? Is your thermosensor hooked up. Have you run codes? what weight oil do you use? .......
