rotors???

i have a couple of questions to ask about rotors, i am building a s5 turbo engine and need some advice. What do larger sized apex seals do and should i get some. Is there such thing as lightweight rotors? or performance internal parts for a rotary? please help, i want a high end high revving engine capable of at least 400 hp

Wider apex seals (3mm) are used for protection against detonation. They dont stop detonation, but they withstand it better than 2mm seals. Yes there is such a thing as lightweight rotors. There are hardened stationary gears for high reving motors and miscellanous other parts that can be found by searching a little.

3mm seals is a great debate... I would not reccomend them if you are doing a high reving engine, they are more mass, thus more reciprocating mass causing more wear... and you are actually removing a strengthened part of the rotor when milling for 3mm... plus 3mm cannot be done properly unless each rotor is blueprinted and balanced properly!

There are such things as lightweight rotors. Racing Beat makes them:

As for the light weight rotors... Yes like it was said above they do Exist and they are made by racing beat.

As for the 3mm I (personal opinion but educated) think that you are removing too much "strenthened" maetrial from the rotor that 3mm Isn't going to give you that much more protection. If you ping bad enough to break a good 2mm Seal you will also ping bad enough to break a 3mm if not that then a side seal.. which in the end is still going to require a rebuild! Not to mention as I said earlier, the fact that each individual rotor should be blueprinted to mill the 3mm grouves properly as to my knowlege no builder in America does this!

Now as for runnign 18Psi, I would reccomend the following;
High flow oil Pump,
performance oil pressure regulator,
oil bypass pellet,
ported water passages,
extra Dowel pins (not neccessary but recomendation).

Those would be my recomendations to you.
Good Luck
Jeff
