Rotary mechanics and Michigan

Are these two things foreign to each other?

I live in between Big Rapids and the Tri-city area (Bay City, Midland, Saginaw)

Are there any good rotary mechanics around? Or even a good shop that can troubleshoot electrical problems?

The reason I ask: My power sunroof doesn't work period. Checked fuse, good. Replaced switch w/ spare, good. Pulled headliner down and looked to see if the motors even worked, wires are cut and missing. I don't know where the four wires go.

Need a little help. Plus, would also like to know for future referrence.

Piece of cake. Go to http://www.iluvmyrx7.com/Technical_I...ice_manual.htm and download the schematics from the 88 factory service manual. Or download page 50-84 of the factory service manual. It shows the schematic for the sliding roof and the connector that goes to the motor. Its a five wire affair. Blue and green, blue, yellow, black and last but not least yellow and red. You should be able to go to the wreck yard and find a similar plug and wire it up.That was a free download from http://www.iluvmyrx7.com/Technical_I...ice_manual.htm the wires go to the motor. Are you saying that your are missing the motor? and the plug both?

I used to know of one that was in Grand Ledge, just west of Lansing. I'll have to see if he's still fixing cars, as last time I checked he was getting ready to just start building dragsters and working for friends.

I'll try and give him a call this weekend, then I'll post whether he still works on them or not.

Long ago I decided to be my own rotarty mechanic. Here's a typical story - in my suburb there's a highly reputable foreign auto repair specialist who once told my friend to not put a header on his 2nd gen because "rotaries need proper exhaust back pressure to run correctly"
So I glean from the Internet and get my hands dirty with experience.

I realize that doing your own work is the only way to truly get it done right half the time, but sometimes you either don't have the time or the knowledge to figure something out.

I am more or less curious if there is someone near by that I could turn to if it came down to me giving up on fixing it myself.

Thanks for the names, I wrote them down and will keep them in mind if worst comes to worst.

Now:

I am not missing any of the wires near the motor. These wires come off the plug (4 of them) and run toward the front of the car along the driver's side right near the door. Then, in the middle of passing the sunroof panel, they disappear! Don't have the other half, they just are all cut and the other end isn't to be found.

Ahh... a rotorie lover close to home.

I live in freeland (just out side saginaw). Good luck finding a good rotary mechanic near the tri-cities (aka GM land). Garber Mazda/Nissan in saginaw went to Garber Nissan/Huyndia. I had my car there once. They did O.K. but I wasn't thrilled. There is another Mazda dealer in Baycity (theyland or something like that). Other than that it would be a long drive.

I work on my own car. If you need help or want to get to gether for a run or something let me know.

Found a real great one in Kalamazoo. Hallie's Auto Care. Small shop Hallie and 1-2 mechanics. Reputation as the area Mazda expert. Used him for 8 years with my first RX. Knows his ****! Not a single problem. A diagnostic marvel!

2 mazda dealers in Grand Rapids. GO Mazda and Borgman Mazda but I do my own work. I wouldn't trust them with a 3rd gen. 1rst and 2nd gen they know their stuff. I know of a guy by ******* that really knows his stuff. I will search for some info on him.

I think Kelly Imports in Jackson rocks. I have a 1988 RX7 GXL (my 3rd RX7) and they diagnosed every issue down to the smallest problem and knew how to take care of it and where to get parts. ALL the mechanics there can work on them!
