Can you please help diagnose with the following problem:

This only happens sometimes when my car is cold first thing in the morning.

Start the engine, buckle up and start driving. While acclerating slowly in first or second the car suddenly loses all power and boggs down. It sounds like jake brakes on a rig.

Thanks in advance,
Matt

What year, model, mileage, modifications?

What do you mean cold? Cold outside, or just not up to normal engine temps?

Have you performed any recent work on the car? Have you given the car a tune-up recently?

Have you checked your TPS? Is it adjusted properly?

Have you had your injectors cleaned recently? Does it have a hard time starting first thing in the morning?

1988 GX
K&N cone filter
free flowing exhaust
NGK plugs/wires

Not up to normal engine temps

Not other than a recent oil change...could use a good tune up plugs, wires, check tps, clean injectors etc.

no problem with starting

If you have high mileage, you might want to do a compression check. It may be a little low. If it is, it will not run all that well until it is warm.

Other than that, do the tune-up stuff and see if that helps.

Also, make sure your TPS is adjusted properly.

It's not compression.

Low throttle issues are often TPS related. Test the TPS sweep to make sure it's smooth (use a scope or analog voltmeter) and replace/adjust as necessary.

Also test the ECT as per FSM. Make sure it's reading within an acceptable range for the temperatures you are seeing.

Your welcome!

I say check your TPS twice! Somehow it doesn't mean anything until somebody else says it. Nice.

Not with 109 posts it doesn't. Also your compression issue you mentionned was wrong, so that doesn't help.

Yep, post count means everything!

I said compression after not receiving the information I requested from the OP.

The reason my post count is not high is becuase I try to SEARCH for my answers first! I sit and read what others have to say before I just post +1 or stupid bullshit!

P.S. I stand by my statement that it will not run well with low compression until it warms up.
