Rotaries and boost

I've seen several mentions of rotaries handling boost different from piston engines. I'm assuming that it takes less boost on a rotary to make the same power as a similarly rated piston engine, so my question is why? What makes them more responsive to boost? Hope that's clear enough to understand

They can spool larger turbos quicker than similarly sized piston engines because of the constant exhaust pulses and the fact that the air isn't made turbulent from all of those unnecessary valves etc.
