rookie question about engine swap :)

I own a 1989 rx-7 GXL 220000 km on the body, 130k km on the rebuilt engine.. runs good.

I am fairly new to the 7 scene, so I have a question that could seem to be common sense to others
I was just browsing around and I have seen some of these JDM engines for sale, so my question is theoretical..
Lets say I bought a "JDM ENGINE 13B TURBO 2 Version:S5 1989-1991, Transmission:Manual RWD Hydraulic Transmission, clutch and flywheel, Electronics:ECU (Computer) with complete harness wiring" Would it be straight drop in/bolt in? Is their fabricating to be done? If so what would be the cost(estimate) of labour/additional parts, or anything extra?

Now keep in mind, my car runs great and I don't really have no intention of doing this anytime in the near future.. BUT I wouldn't mind hearing everyones input because it seems to me buying a 1500 engine with shipping would be easier then rebuilding my engine if/when it goes.. I'm like a sponge, so any information you type I'll read

anyways, thanks in advance!

All your Qs should be answered here:

And a TII swap will cost 3000$ if you want to do it the right way.

2000$ if you do it cheap....and cheap will bite you in the ***.

Rebuilding an NA costs around 1500$. Its half the price...but half as fun as a TII.

Make your choice.

Do have an auto or a 5 speed in there now. I you have an auto you will have to fabricate mounts for the manual tranny to bolt up.

Supposed to be drop in, plug and play. As long as you put s5 motor in s5 car (1989+ is s5). Can't say much beyond that... you'll have to keep looking.

You'll also need a T2 rear-end. You're better off to buy a T2, rather then swap it all in.
