Rocks in thermostat housing?
s5 GXL, 120k miles, 5speed.
So maybe not rocks per say but pretty damn close. I'm thinking there calcium build up. I've been running strait water for a few weeks now while trying to figure out if I have a water leak or blown coolant seals. Found my water neck cracked and removed the rad hose to see how bad it was when I found this. Any ideas?

Yup... Mineral deposits or electrolysis...
What's your radiator made of?
Is the radiator grounded to the chassis of the car?
Tap or distilled water?

MECP Certified Installer
I am using this....

Works great. A bit more than the ebay unit, but I'd damn sure trust mazdatrix more.
