Right side speakers almost dead?
Ok, I have the stock stereo in my '91 TII. The Clarion CD player with the passenger select thingy. Well it is really weird.
The left side speakers work great (All three). But the right side (3) don't work. Now if you fade it all to the left then you crank it. You can hear music very softly. So something is making to the speakers. What crapped out?
I know the car has an amp in the passenger side spot where your shins would be. But this one amp powers both left and right speakers. So if the amp craped out it should kill my left side. Well it dosn't not sure what it could be. Could it be in the stereo?
Any experience on this one?

I have the pioneer head unit. so this may not help at all. But my 'balance' will short out occasionally, rendering (by chance, I'm sure) the right side almost silent. A quick flick right/left restores it. This is an underknob ring control. It is obviously not making good contact anymore. Yours may be doing the same thing, especially if you get intermittent sound (which you didn't mention). The solution is to clean the contacts, which will probably entail pulling the *****, rubbing alcohol, and swabs.
I also had a Blau HU blow a channel last week, so that could have happened as well. Of course this channel was dead to the world, and you are getting some voltage to the speakers.
Maybe the outboard amp is toast? You can get a line converter and another amp and hook that up to see. $10 for the line converter, 0$ to borrow a buddy's amplifier.

i had this same problem. it's that the speakers are now 15 or so years old and they are made of paper instead od rubber, good old mazda cost savings. any way all my speakers were roted and the cones were not intact changed to aftermarket speakers and viola problem solved!

Well, I pulled off the little ***** and wiggled them and it didn't do anything. I really think it is in there. In the head unit. I know all the speakers have been replaced.
I think radio shack has a spray for this type of thing. Worth a try.
