TII question

Alright I am planning on getting EGT and Boost gauges this coming up week. I already have an intake. I then plan to get a FCD and s-afc to handle my fuel for my exhaust which I plan next. I want to tune just a little rich. How does this sound? Then after that I want to port my wastegate as I get the turbo upgraded(this way my boost will be down while I get a walbro fuel pump and 720cc injectors). Well, tell me what you think of this. Thanks.

Unfortunately the S-AFC will probably not give you the fuel delivery you want for the exhaust upgrade, until you get a higher flowing fuel pump. The stock fuel pump is junk. It really depends alot of how much boost the exhaust gives you. With a full 3" dp/mp and GT spec catback, I registered around 1.1 bar in higher gears (~16psi). With a straight flowing TID, and cone intake I registered .9 bar in 1st gear, and as much as 1.4 bar (~20psi) in 4th gear! My advice is, port your wastegate first, and make the DIY boost controller from www.autospeed.com. Next, 720s and a Walbaro, and last the S-AFC/FCD and exhaust. RICE RACING recommended a 2.5" exhaust because of the mid-range boost spikes and top-end boost drop-off associated with the small S4 turbo.

Removing the turbo is VERY easy, and can be done in about 2 hours.

I really didn't plan to do the porting myself(don't really feel like messing it up to be honest). What if I got the walbro pump before the exhaust? I could also put the stock intake box back on while I wait to get my wastegate ported. I see some people on here doing DP, MP and intake without any fuel mods. Are they really being that careless? Thanks alot for the response.

Do yourself a favor and go buy a dremel. Best $80 you'll ever spend . Porting your wastegate is the simplist thing you can do, trust me. The wastegate valve goes over a hole right? Make that hole as big as possible so that the valve can still close (IE. Not bigger than the valve!)! It's simple. We're talking about high grade iron here, it's not like you can slip and cut your turbine housing in two!

To answer your other question, yes I think they are being careless, but I have not seen many people run as much boost creep as I did, with as little mods. I think my setup was just exceptionally high flowing. The wastegate and actuator do work. If you are running over .9 bar, you are generally at risk and you are slowly taking mileage away from your engine, IMO. I noticed that anything before .9 bar, on a stock fuel system would yield anywhere from 10.8-11.5:1 A/F ratios, which is "safe" IMO. Anything past and the A/F would go past 12, 13, and finally 14.5:1 A/F ratios @ WOT!

Oh yeah, my engine blew after running 20psi/14.5:1 a/f ratio for around 1k miles, obviously I didn't care much about it, I just wanted to have fun with it before I got my new one .

porting the wastegate with a dremel takes forever. if you can get acess to an airgrinder i suggest using that instead. i did it on a a friend of mines 87 T2 and it took about 3 hours. and i burned up the bit pretty bad. but regardind the pump, get one and install it when you put an exhaust on. you really wont absolutey need it as long as you have cats but its better to be safe than sorry.
