revived rx-7 having some problems

hello.. this is my first rx-7.. and i had some buds with ALOT of experience help me out.. i went and looked at over 20 rx-7's to find this one.. it has 90k miles on the motor.. its an auto 88 se (i think) its interior is almost mint only a small rip on the drivers seat.. ill get some pics up soon.. but anyways the motor had flooded the lady said the classic "i moved it 10 feet shut it off and it wouldnt start" i immediately raised my fist in victory and offered her 1k cash, and towed it home.. anyways i got home, my friends and pulled fuses and tryed to easy unflood it. didnt work.. so then we put 60w oil in each housing and turned and turned over and over and finally the motor made compression, anyways after a few hours of removing the spark plugs, cleaning them and putting them back in.. we got the car to start.. very rough idle, then would not idle so we could get it to run but only by reving it.. anyways HUGe clouds of smoke came out and filled up the block.. the cats got clogged and caught on fire .. so we had to remove the whole exhaust system.. anyways..as the car sits now.. the car has trouble starting..wont idle.. and it cuts off after about running 40 seconds abruptly like it cuts off or something.. im going to wire open the 5th and 6th ports tommorow.. but im trying to figure out why the car will not idle.. ihave not even driven it yet.. im thinking maybe a vaccum line or an o2 sensor.. or something with fuel.. help would be greatly appreciate.. it feels good to be in the rx-7 community finally.. thanks

Spray carb cleaner around the vac rack. Idle will improve if there is a leak. But I suggest a compression test before doing anything else.

The vac rack is the vacuum spider under the UIM.

Check around the intake piping, remember the guy said they took of the piping and dumped oil into the TB...Silly guys...

I would check under the intake piping.. some lines under it...

Don't do that. You haven't even driven it yet so you don't even know if they're working. A functioning 6PI system is much better than a wired open one, so wait until the car's running and then check if it's working properly. If it's not, fix it.

Your problem definitely sounds like a vacuum leak. You may have knocked off or dislodged something while trying to get it going.

This car was babied its whole life and the ports were stuck shut...Since his exhuast system is now gone, he will be better off wiring them open for now..That starting fluid you got to clean off the spark plugs works the best for finding a vaccum leak..Have you changed the oil again yet? Are you on the 2nd or 3rd change now?

wiring ports open will cause an even worse idle...

dont just clean your plugs, get some different ones, stock ones foul EASILY.

How long had it been sitting?

Do you have access to a fuel pressure gauge?
