I have a question for you guys. I just purchased RB mufflers, bonez high flow, and a RB header but I do not have the y-pipe. Will I need the RB y pipe or can I just use the oem ones? I really don't want to spend $200 on a damn y pipe. Thanks.

I've had many exhausts set ups on my car. I have RB headers, Bonez catless midpipe, Bonez hi flow cat midpipe, apexi single exhaust, apexi dual exhaust, racing beat rev II cat back, and greddy.

I loved the feel of my apexi dual with bonez catless midpipe, the car had excellent pick up. With the RB catback, the tone was silenced so I was able to go on long drives without an annoying drone.

If you want to stay under the radar and have a very nice sounding exhaust, RB is the way to go!

Catback on mine. Haven't noticed much of a difference compared to stock at least in terms of volume, which I consider a plus. Sounds good.

I got my RB headers to Bonez cat to oem y pipe to RB exhaust installed last summer. What's the easiest way to fix my exhaust from hanging too low. Is it just the hangers or do I need to take it to a shop to get it bent? Thanks again guys.

You either have to take it to an exhaust shop or make sure ALL your hangers are new (rubber stretches), then it will still be slightly crooked. Bend brackets at rear bumper to adjust. If you didn't replace rubber mounts, it will make things worse.

ive had a few different exhuast systems over the years a 3" corksport system very loud, a 3" custom built system with an apexi n1 muffler, still fairly loud.

i had allways heard of the prestiege of the RB systems. but never thought it was worth dishing out the big dough( they are usually alot more expensive than some of the real loud systems)

well it was definitly worth the price, i got the Rev TII RB system.

i must say the RB system is GREAT for a daily driver car,it still has great performance, sounds good, good quality, looks good, but is not overwelming.

i still plan to use the n1 styel system on my track oreinted car, but the rb is great if you want perforance and dont want every cop within a mile mean mugging you, or risking going deaf!

sorry to up this old topic, but i need to consider buying a RB exhaust.

I'm actually some sort of cheap N1 style exhaust (complete system) on my T2.
i think the brand is texas sport auto or something like this. really cheap, but good welding quality. the exhaust is almost a straight tube after the downpipe.

Yesterday i got arrested by the cops cause they found my car was too loud. They checked the car... luckilly they couldn't find anything else than the exhaust that was not compliant. They didn't took the car in yet but apparently i will be convocated for a full car inspection by the police... again i'm not really scared for the rest of the car, but the exhaust is not homologated. hence not street-legal.

When i asked the cop, why he was saying that my exhaust was not street-legal, he said because it was straight through. From what i've seen, the RB is not like this. and the fake that the sound is really dampened could do the trick. But i'd like to know if it has any kind of homologation for Europe ? it should have some sort of stamp with a "E" and some numbers somewhere (near the tip of the exhaust i'd suppose).

does anybody know about this?

No, the RB system is straight through and has no certifications of any kind.

My review of my RB RevTII turbo back-

Materials- Passable. The downpipe was thin wall Stainless (too loud) and the catback section was excessively thick stainless (too heavy). The cast flanges were great as well as the muffler/presilencer body construction.

Craftsmanship- Poor. The welds were all ugly MIG welds and one muffler tip was welded on at a much different angle than the other so it was impossible to get it to look balanced side to side. I set the tips to the same height and put up with one muffler hanging lower than the other. All the Japanese exhausts and even the Korean exhaust I have bought had better craftsmanship.

Design- Poor. The downpipe/presilencer are all cheated radius cuts which are horrible for flow.

Looks- Good. It looks subtle and doesn't attract undue attention. Doesn't look sexy, but that is not why people buy it.

Sound- Great. It does a very good job of quieting the rotary. It doesn't sound sexy in tone, but again that is not why people buy it.

wow... that's really harsh compared to all the other comment. you say it's straight through ? when you look through the tip of the exhaust, you can see the Y pipe ?

Yes, straight through as verified with line of sight.

Yes, I am not fond of RB exhaust "quality"

I had an eariler RB 2.5" downpipe/presilencer for my TII as well.

Heavy chromed mild steel and the presilencer had a horrible flange construction with captured bolts for "studs" so that when the threads are invariably damaged you have to drill out the captured bolt, fill the hole with weld and tap the flange with threads for a stud. Exhaust pieces should always have removable hardware as it is always damaged with use.

Three things I found the RB 3" RevTII turbo back was good for-

1) It flowed so poorly it stopped the boost creep I was having with my other turbo back exhaust (downside was it took 500rpm more to spool the turbo.)

2) It looked stock(ish)

3) It was quiet

Or when they snap off from the nuts rusting to the bolts. First time it happened I drilled a hole through the bolts but didn't drill them completely out. Tapped the holes and put a studs in it. this was on the Y-pipe side. Granted the studs are two sizes smaller than the original bolts, but it's still holding after almost three years. The next time it happened( header side) I cut a hole in the side and ground out the weld and had a new bolt welded back in and the hole welded back shut. The presilencer itself is a solid unit. I've had mine 16 years and though no longer pretty it has many years of service left in it. Only problem is those bolts are a PITA when they break. If you don't need the backpressure sensing tube I would consider getting their universal presilencer and having pipe and flanges put on it so as to be able to use nuts and bolts. I have also had their header for 16 years and although it's not as pretty as it once was it too still has many years left in it.

I have the REV II system in my S5 Turbo. I love it. It is a pretty heavy unit, but it looks great (except it hanging a tad bit lower on one side). The size of the tips are exactly how I want it, stock appearance but larger. And the sound is great out of boost. Since I'm running an EWG, it doesn't do much justice for sound in that department lol. But overall I like it. I can't compare it to anything else except for a stock system and what I witnessed a few times what seemed to be a Dual Apexi N1 unit on a N/A car which was loud as heck. I didn't really like the tone of the exhaust on that one car but it looked okay the way it was mounted.

Pic for reference :P

i finally received my exhaust and i'm really disappointed...

first off, it took around one month to receive it in europe... basically RB usa sends it to RB europe who sends it to me afterward. But RB usa wait to have a sufficient amount of orders to send a big package... whatever...

the part themselves are a bit dull in my opinion. the welding bead are all brown/rusted where my cheap exhaust had nice and shint welding bead... I'm no expert, but i can only expect the worst durability wise. Do your systems also comes with the weld rusted ? do they have survived ?

next topic... they forget to include the turbo gasket (which is listed as part of the included component on the website). When ordered alone, it costs 55$... it's not like a 2$ part that i could have ordered on ebay aside and forget about it... Maybe i have not understand correctly the website as english is not my birth language... did you had this seal (the one with three screw holes) ?

then the rubber mountings are not included... fair enough it's usually not the case with exhaust system, but with the RB the price is so high that i wasn't sure if they were included or not... moreover on the website they that it comes with all the necessary for fixation and they don't include the hangers kit in the part that could be ordered at the same time (albeit they put the RB fuel cut thing, they could propose the hanger kit at the same time...).

Finally, not really important, but i asked them if they could add some stickers within. They tell me no problem, and finally it's not included... that's not really important I agree, but it tells long about how poorly are the customers considered... (at least for RB uk)...

What bother me the most in the end is the welding quality. If i keep it, i wil order the hanger kit and ask them to include the turbo gasket for free (I hope they will have the decency to accept...). but I don't want to have a poorly manufactured part that will break in 20000km...

here are some example of welding bead bothering me:

do you think I should be worrying or not ?

Grun- im not sure what you are viewing their site on, maybe with a translation program some of it is lost?
but its clearly listed as not having the gasket :

This bolt-on system uses the stock mounting points for ease of installation. Each system is supplied with all necessary mounting hardware and gaskets. (The kit does not include turbo outlet gasket, if needed it can be ordered separately.) The down pipe section is provided with a position for the oxygen sensor.

also further down it actually DOES list a complete hanger kit with links to that page highlighted in red ( I have capitalized them the red links dont come up on this forum )

Replacement Rubber Exhaust Hangers
We recommend the replacement of the original rubber exhaust hangers during the installation of any new exhaust component. It is our experience that over time the original rubber hangers can deteriorate, crack, and fail; which can result in the incorrect alignment of the exhaust system. If needed, WE OFFER A COMPLETE HANGER REPLACEMENT KIT which includes ALL required hangers for your RX-7.

We offer replacement exhaust hangers for all models of 1986-92 RX-7's. REVIEW THE EXHAUST HANGER CHART for details on the exact components that are required for your exhaust system.

on the US website you are right.

although, as i'm in europe, i pass through the EU distributor website:
RACING BEAT REV T11 COMPLETE EXHAUST SYSTEM FOR 1987 TO 91 TURBO II

"This kit comes complete with the Turbo Outlet Gasket. "

and no mention of the hanger kit (but when you search on the website it's available for order).

the hanger is not a major issue, it's more my mystake than anything else.

but the turbo gasket is clearly listed in the parts composing the kit and moreover it's not available in the rest of their website (i haven't found it at least).

I've checked on their facebook page and there are pictures of other parts which have the same finish on the welding bead so i'm not that scared anymore... i will go to my friend's shop tomorrow to see what they think of the part quality, but i suppose it's fine...

if they can add a turbo gasket within the hanger kit, i suppose it would solve the problem...

Edit : stupid question, but it is necessary to change the gasket ? when i put my previous exhaust, i think there was no turbo gasket either. and when i had my engine rebuilt, I supposed they have took off the turbo as they have checked it's condition. I don't know if it's part of the gasket to be replaced while rebuilding the engine... moreover that it looks much stronger than the rest of the exhaust gasket...

i went to a shop next to my place who confirmed to me that the wielding where of really dirty but should not break.

I've had the feedback from RB that they forgot the turbo gasket. So they will send it to me and they will offer me the hanger kit. And the sticker where hidden in of the fold of the cardboard box.

All in all, so far I'm ok. I'll hope there will be no more bad surprise during the installation...

As for the welds, sand them down and coat it with hi temperature rust proof spray if you want to take any precautionary action to prevent corrosion.

After hearing my friend's RB catback on his FD, I got one for my FC to replace the rusty original one. I bought the TurboII catback for my S4 GXL and loved how it sounded. Nice and quiet when cruising around under the radar, but gets more pronounced when you let your right foot take over.

When paired up with a 20B-REW, it sounds like it should have been there all along. It makes happy.

Construction is top-notch, all stainless steel with excellent weld quality. Fits very well with the supplied Mazda hangars. I'm very pleased with it.

i have the exhaust installed since 2 weeks now and i like it. Once installed it looks good on the car. as the car is more quiet, you can cruise easily without feeling that you have to race the car... i can't wait for the holidays to try long journeys with the car...

Those welds look like ***! Sort of like my welds when I first tried. But I'm not a welder so what do I know. For $2000 CDN $'s I would expect better welding. My local garage can spit out welds 10x better. RB should have the welding perfected by now. They probable contract the mufflers out maybe?

that's also my guess, the mufflers are probably bought to another manufacturer and they only do the piping welds internally...

Clean exhaust, easy for me to ignore, hasn't attracted cops. As for performance I've never dyno'd it but others have I'm sure. So I don't have much to say about it, but I could tell you so many stories of those with loud exhausts and the never ending cop trouble. One guy wanted to sell his car b/c of it.

It's s4 NA catback.
