I’m having a hard getting my S4 MT into reverse. The shifter slides in just fine, but the gear doesn’t catch. When I shift out of reverse, is it very tight and hard to get out. (I almost need a cheater bar.) First, fifth, etc are all fine. The shifter bushings are new. I’m trying most of the tricks (ie shift into first before reverse). With enough effort I can catch reverse, but it seems like a matter of time before it fails on me. The reverse lights also come in 5th gear. I’m assuming something is bent or out of adjustment. Anything I should try before a new tranny?

Also, do I need an S4 NA tranny specifically? I know a turbo will not work, but can I use an S5 tranny if I find one?

 

An S5 tranny will work just fine.
