Reverse-light-switch from FB work in an FC (S4)? And NY inspection question...
The wire broke off of the reverse-light-switch in my 86 NA.
My roommate has a transmission from an FB with a reverse light switch in it. Will that work in my FC? (Besides not having a 5th gear switch).
Also, in NYS can the reveres lights be wires to a switch and operated manual? Or do they have to work automatically with the shifter. I just need the reveres lights working to pass inspection. I have called inspection places but get the same answer ‘I don’t know, I would have to check the book’; and they are all to lazy to check for me.
Also², Is the following information correct for an S4 manual car? (I found it in another thread but it was for an automatic I think):
Thanks,
Jason

Reverse is Blk/Yellow to igntion and Red/Grn to the back up lights.
5th gear switch is Blk/LtBlue to the ECU and Blk to ground.

For the record, they are compatible with slight modification. The threaded section on the FB sensor is about .05” longer then the FC (S4) sensor. This locks out reverse.
Installing a thin washer in between the sensor and the tranny will fix this problem.
