the car buzzes at you at 7k so just shift... if thats not enough for you get a shift light. Still not enough drive an auto. And I seriously doubt hitting 8k every once in a while is gonna hurt it since the s5 n/a redlines at 8k anyways.

buzzers and shift lights are useless. who said i had an s5 n/a?i have a s4 t2 motor with s5 high compression rotors

so i dont lean out and crack my rear housing again.in another thread they were talking about wiring a relay to the trailing to cut power.

If the car came from the factory with an 8k limiter, it's not going to hurt it to run at 8 grand.

you could get an rpm switch and wire it to a normally on relay controlling power to the leading coil, set it for 7k and i'm pretty sure that would cut spark.

How can you not notice the big light... I find them totaly obnoxious though even those little tiny ones in the dash on some cars.

I run mine near 8k regularly and the motor doesn't even notice it. The main reason the redline is at 7k is because thats where the power drops off. If it would damage the motor to run to 8k, then the rev limiter would be at 7k.

The ariel atoms i have driven didn't have shift lights.... I think im in tune with any vehicle enough to know when im past useful power range/bouncing revs..... i could be wrong and they atoms could be stupid for not having them...... shiftlights/buzzers useless (unless you want to save gas:-)) i hate to sound like a jerk but maybe you should adjust your driving not the car.i datalog myself shifting at 6498 6522 6494 all day long in my rx7... shift light who? it must be a drag race thing

8000 rpms isn't going to hurt your engine.

Yeah, but to run that constantly you need to check clearances, upgrade the bearings (and use lock screws on them), increase the oil pressure, and change a few other bits past 8500... not to mention you have to prevent water pump cavitiation, and ideally, you need to have a scatter shield and balanced...everything.

A stock engine will be fine at 8K though, and the occasional 9K isn't going to hurt it as long as that's not your normal shifting point.

Yea, i've redone the motor to where it'll make consistent power up there.

If your looking to find out what power you make at what rpm's, take it to a dyno.

I'm not looking into that. I just want my rpm limit to not damage my engine. I will anyway when i solve an exhaust leak it has...

The stock buzzer doesn't help for **** when you miss a gear, do donuts or get sideways. Not to mention some turns will require you to wind out 1st or 2nd with just enough room to not justify shifting to 3rd and downshifting again. I always hated how our cars never had rev limiters.

Uh, wut?

Most street transmissions aren't going to have ratios suited for racing, hence why we will always find ourselves needing a Second and a Half gear, or a First and Three Quarters gear.

We definitely have rev limiters.
