rev II with no presilencer

so i have the full rev II exhaust on my 88 turbo II. the car seems really quiet to me and i'm just looking to get a bit more growl out of it. does anyone know what it will sound like if i get rid of the presilenser and put a straight pipe in its place?

thanks.

oh yeah, just bought a 2013 wrx, but the rx7 still has the garage.

It sounds sort of like:

Brrrrrrrrrrrr.... Burrrrrrrrrrrrr..... Burrrrrrrr.....

^That's a 1st through 3rd pull

At idle, it's sort of like :

Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr rrrrrrr.......

Wear earplugs like you get at the rifle range.

I never REALLY appreciated any aftermarket exhaust until I put on the RB turbo-back. Sounds great, quiet at idle, growls when you want the sh*t to hit the fan!

I have the revII and it sounds great without the pre silencer. Mine is just 3" downpipe all the way back to the RB mufflers. It's still quiet but gets a lil bit louder in time.

Here is my TII with 3 1/2" downpipe/midpipe to RB Rev TII rear section.

Much quieter than when I run the 3 1/2" all the way back.

-Edit- rats I see AGreen already posted my audio via phonetics.

Rotaries don't growl, they buzz. That exhaust in the video sounds good to me.

A working hi-flow cat would make the car smell nicer though...

Caught! Well you can hear how it sounds with wastegate closed on the line anyways.

yup

In all seriousness, I am running a 4in dp/mp to the catback, and is a million times quieter than a 3in dp, 3in borla pre silencer, and a single 3in catback (ssautochrome/corksport). I dont worry about cops when driving the car around.

thats probably what im dealing with. the exhaust is new with probably 2k miles, i dont drive it much. my old turbo II which i had a rev II on had a lot of miles on it and it sounded much throatier.

thanks to all the other knuckle heads and their "informative" replies!

Yeah it will sound better with time. The RB exhaust I put on my old s1 took about 10K to really open up and sound better.

This is exactly what I am running and the car is not loud at all. Cruising and driving normal it is pretty quiet with a nice tone, put your foot in it and it is appropriate sounding....not Honda civic fart can loud, but not Prius quiet

its a bit louder but not overly so,

ive had one with the full system and another with the straight mid section

the racing beat mufflers them selves really do a good job cutting noise

In addition to reducing noise levels, presilencers do a good job of "cleaning up" the sound by cutting out some of the high frequency noise. The difference is much more noticeable on an NA.
