Reuse apex seals with 4k on them?

...assuming they are in spec. For all of you engine builders out there would you do this? Im about to purchase a vert and take my turbo motor that I had rebuilt myself and put it in the vert. However the motor has low compression (hot start issues but the car runs strong otherwise) since I had used pretty worn housings (150k). So im thinking about buying new housings and swapping them out but I havent decided if I want to take the plunge and just buy new apex seals or keep the ones I already have despite them having already gotten 'used' to my older housings.

This of course assumes the seals are in-spec in the first place. If not, im going to buy new ones anyway.

If you're buying new housings I strongly recommend that you buy new apex seals.

Your apex seals are worn into the shape of your current worn out housings. If you use them on new housings they won't seat as well at first, and will probably never fully seat. This will cause low compression and increased, but more importantly uneven wear on seals and housings.

Apex seals aren't cheap, but a whole set should be cheaper than just one of the housings your picking up. Treat your investment right, and it will last. Use new OEM seals.

After 4K the seals are well bedded into the housings. If you were re-rebuilding the same engine and kept the seals in their original positions, then it's fine. But new housings are going to want new seals.

Would it work with the used seals? Sure...But if you are spending $350 a piece on new housings, spend another $400 for new apex seals.

Option B:
Got a machine shop with a small surface grinder?
You could prepare a concave wheel & dress a few thousandths off the edge of the old seals.

Or sell them to some poor guy who isn't worried about the almost infinitesimal amount of wear on a 4k seal.
