RETed or anyone else that wants to help :)

since the engine on my 86 blew, would i be better off to get a rebuild kit and street port it, or get a 89-91 j-spec engine from cork sport for 950 bucks?? i would say the t2 engine because its gonna cost over a thousand for the rebuild and street port, i would like to get the engine and street port it and put a racing beat turbo back exhaust, but i wouldnt do the exhaust till i got enough for the fuel system, walbro pump, FCD, FPR, 600cc primaries and 750cc secondaries, and probably an Apex S-AFC, what you think??

Allow me to take my hand at this.

If you want a faster car then go for the T2 engine. Otherwise, for better reliability, go for the rebuild.

Now, as far as the way in which you would modify this T2 engine is all wrong. You certainly won't hurt the car by putting in an aftermarket fuel pump at this early stage, but getting the exhaust is the very FIRST step you should take (other than getting an intake filter)! Don't let a blown engine scare you into upgrading in the wrong order. Fuel will come when the engine demands it. Right now, exhaust is well within the stock fuel's ability to handle and there is no need for a fuel computer. The car MUST breath properly before you start adding more power to the engine.

Just don't use a boost controller and you'll be fine.

keep in mind that he would only be working with the n/a fuelpump,so earlier upgrade might be nesecary.

the reason i figured i would need the fuel upgrades is because the racing beat turbo system says 32% increase in power, jspec t2 supposedly is 212hp, 32% of 212 is 67hp, racing beat said they got a 59hp increase from a stock 87t2 with the exhaust, it raises the boost to 10.5-11 psi, as racing beat says. yea i would be working with the stock N/A pump, a walbro is only 137 from RP, and injectors i would get from RC engineering. but yea i plan on intake and exhaust first thing.

I've touched on some of these points in several other post, but since my name was mentioned...

You need to address how you're going to control the turbo engine.&nbsp You cannot expect your stock NA ECU and stock NA engine harness to plug right in.&nbsp At the very least, you'd need to track down a turbo engine harness and turbo ECU.&nbsp More advanced would be to slap on a Haltech stand-alone to control the whole thing...

The J-spec is not rated for more power.&nbsp It's rated at 212ps.&nbsp When translated to horsepower, it still comes out to 200hp.

i got the harness down already, cork sport sends the wiring harness and partial loom for the engine, all i would need is the ECU, ok i knew it was 212, thought it was hp not ps
