retarded question (not planning on doing it)
now im just asking this out curiousity and i dont know much about transmissions, how hard would it be to convert a regular 5 speed pattern to a dog leg pattern on an fc? what kind of work would have to be done to make it happen?

"Dog leg pattern gearboxes are usually found on performance and racing automobiles. This is because in road racing it is rare to shift into first gear other than for the initial start or exiting a pit lane."

i see many of you do not know how transmissions are built, you cannot change the shift pattern period - unless you redesign the case and shift forks.
sure anything is possible with money but you would be much better off just replacing the transmission with the desired pattern and have a bellhousing adapter plate and input shaft made.

You want the least important gear to be the offset gear for an "intense" application. For most of us, that would be 5th gear, which is an overdrive. Most of us road warriors and autocrossers want an easy to use 1st gear. Road racers would want an easy to use 5th gear (for most tracks).

I always saw the "dog leg" as more of a European thing. Considering just about every european car sold here with a Manual uses that shift pattern. While I've never seen a Japanese or US car with that pattern.

I've seen very few recent cars that use this pattern, mainly because most that would have used it are now 6-speeds. The point of that pattern was to have 4 and 5 aligned to allow easier shifting on the high speeds of the Autobahn/Autostrada. With a 6 speed, 5th and 6th are now aligned using the normal shift pattern.
As Karak mentioned it would basically require an entirely new transmission to be swapped in to accomplish. You might as well just get a 6-speed.

seems like the simplest way would be to just buy a dog leg gear box and put it in, because i dont think you could really change anything within the transmission to do that, unless you basically fabricated a new transmission
