Restrictor "pill"

I am not sure if this has been asked before or not. Did a search, but it either turned up like 1,001 threads or none at all.

My question is this: Are there any long-term detriments to running the car without the restrictor "pill" in the boost sensor line? I know it causes hesitations when accelerating, but can it damage the engine?

Also, could one be fabbed up easily? The nearest Mazda dealership is like an hour away and they have to order it too so I was just wondering if I could make one.

Take anything you can easily cut up, like a peice of rubber or something, carve it up and use a big pin to put a hole through it.

The pill is there so that the pressure sensor does not read changes too fast. If you were to put an un-buffered mechanical Vac/Boost gauge on the line you would see the line fluctuates much too badly to give a proper signal, thus confusing the ECU.

Without the pill, the on throttle and lift throttle events will often cause a stumble as the ECU is getting too much signal too quickly and not reflective of the true engine condition.

This question has been covered before please search next time.

So, it probably won't hurt the engine, but its more an issue of the ECU not responding correctly as it is set up designed for use with the pill.

Well, like I stated in the first post I did search and it turned up a million threads. The first 20 or so that I looked through explained what happens (which I knew already), but did not offer any consequences, other than stumbling, to not having the restrictor "pill." That is why I made a thread.

I can't see it harming the engine in any way.
The hesitations will eventually stress the seals and engine components because of the shock, but that's negligable because of the very long time frame.

Essentially, no damage.
