Restoring compression

Just bought another Rex. 87xxx, one owner GXL. It's in great shape, except it sat. Like...forever. Threw some oil in it, checked the compression. About the only positive thing I can say about it is that it had nice, even bounces on all six faces...30 p.s.i. each. Is there any way I could possibly bring it back, or is it too far gone?

I suppose there is no harm in trying the ATF trick to see if you can clean out the engine a little. Search for ATF, you will find lots of info.

Might also be compression meter used if both rotors got 30psi, when doing compression test, you need to be at WOT.If it starts and runs.. there is no way you have 30psi compression unless maybe your idling at 5k rpms. If it doesn't run.. try the atf trick to see if that helps.

Nope, doesn't run. That's the problem. Trying to get the compression issue solved before messing with anything else. Compression is so bad, it won't even fire on starting fluid...just burns it and shoves it out the exhaust.

Kerosen

I used kerosen and gum out carb cleaner.

Here's what I did

Take the cat converter out or it will get clogged. Clean out the pre cat or take the wire mesh out if its still in there. You don't need it.

Take the leading plug out on both rotors.
Spray Gumout in each chamber. As much as you can.

Take a socket and turn the motor over a few times at the alternator pully when spraying gum out. So you get it in all six rotor faces. Don't use the starter for this or it will be a big mess.
Do this a few time. I used two can for this.
Let it sit for five min and repeat till you used up two cans.

Next put in a cup of kerosen in each chamber. Remenber to turn the motor so you get it in all rotor faces.

Let it sit for a while so it soaks in to any carbon deposits. The longer the better.

Hand crank it a few time so the kerosen and gum out work inside.

Next install the plugs and pull the ECU fuse out so the fuel injectors don't supply fuel to motor.

Make sure you have a good battery for this next step.

Crank the motor with the starter at the same time step on the gas pedal for WOT. Do this a bunch on times you will see black junk and fluid come out of the pre-cat.
Keep doing this till you think its clear of most of the gum out and kerosen.

Next pull all the plugs out and clean them dry with gump out.

With the plugs out put rags at the open plug holes and crank some more.

Now put the clean plugs in install fuses.
With the main cat out you will be making alot of noise and smoke. People will think your cars on fire so becareful they don't call the fire dept.

Now with WOT start the car. It will take a few times till you hear it try to start. Keep the WOT at all times.
You may have to have some one hold the throttle position sensor close fooling the ECU so it does not flood the motor.

When it starts there will be lots of smoke and very noisy. Once you see the smoke clear install your cat back in.

Remember don't do this with the cat installed and your pre cat not cleared. It will definatly get clogged!

I did this with my 133k motor and it runs like new again.

I was getting ~ 60psi - 50 psi at each rotor.
After this clean out I get ~ 85 to 95 psi now.
My motor runs alot smother as well.

Good luck!
