Restabbing CAS questions

Say you check the timing with an inductive light... and everything seems dead on... is it still possible that the CAS could be misaligned?

Even then, you wouldn't have to restab unless it is horribly off. You would just need to loosen the bolt and rotate it. Restabbing is a pain in the *** (in my opinion).

If you watch the inside gears, you may notice that they rotate as you install the CAS. Thats because the gear on the CAS is meshing with a bevel gear on the crank shaft. That bevel gear is causing the cas to turn. I had a problem where I would install the cas with the marks aligned, but it turned as I put it in and threw the timing off just enough to make it run like crap. If I put it in and pulled it right back out, the CAS would rotate back the other way making me think I had it right. I finally took the cover off and watched the insides while I was installing it.

Just my little CAS story.

You should use a timing light right away after stabbing the cas. Youll still probably be off a degree or two even if you have stabbed the thing 20 times.

Just take off the cover and hold the shaft steady with your finger and stab it in. It will be good enough to start and you can fine-tune from there with the light

Thats what I ended up doing. Seems to be the best way for when you initially stab it in.

I'm have this prob. now w/ my new engine. With the marks on the bottom of the CAS alined, one of the teeth under the cover aline with the pick-up on the right. I marked that tooth. As I stabed the CAS, the tooth above it will move closer to the pick up and the marked tooth unalines.

Do you think it will be good enough to start the new engine w/ the new Microtech?

When In put my CAS in with the Haltech, I had the two teeth lined up with the two screw holes. Thats how Hitman says to do it...
