Replacing stock oil pressure and water temp

So i was wondering, is the stock watertemp and oil pressure sensors connected to anything else than the gauges? do they give a signal to the pcm or anything like that?

No. Not for the water temp gauge anyway. Just pop the wires off and replace.

There's another water temp sensor on the back of the water pump HOUSING that sends information to the ECU and is a major player in fuel delivery. But if it fails or if the single wire is broken at the sensor, the ECU defaults to 176* F which is very close to a normal engine temp so no harm should come from a open wire from that sensor. Just cold start problems if the air temps are fairly cold.

Thanks for quick and useful answers

What about the oil pressure sensor, does it send to anything else than just the gauge?

Ok, then i will replace them with more accurate aftermarket sensors and gauges, once i find a way to mount the gauges properly.

No question the stock water temp gauges (either series) can be improved upon but my (S5) stock oil pressure gauge corresponded quite accurately with the aftermarket VDO gauge installed at the same time.
The stocker is dampened more heavily (doesn't react as quickly) but read essentially the same.
