Replacing the logicon, DIY?
hello,
my logicon is toast and needs to be replaced for a second time. the first time i did it, i had it put in by a shop. i just don't know how to unplug/replug that long one on the back of the logicon. how can i get to where that plug goes. if you've done this or know how, please tell me. i don't want to have to pay an hours worth of labor for somethng simple. thanks,

I think your supposed to pull off the top front part of the dash. I never have. I pull the steering wheel, pull the insturment cluster, then with the logicon screws out, I found I can reach in thru the insturment cluster hole and follow the harness from the logicon until the plug is reached. Its tight but can be done. Will scratch your hand a bit. Done it about three times. You might need a puller for the steering wheel. Mines been on and off so much it just needs a firm bump on each side. I hesitate to pull the top of the dash off because things like that seem to break if I even look hard at them.

Josepi...did you do it like that? I vaguely remember trying from the drivers foot well but the body cramped up too much and it didn't work for me. I'll try that again when the oportunity arrives. Hate dash work.

Former Moderator. RIP Icemark.
Pull the wheel??? on no I have only done it on a 86-88 but it can't be that different on a 89-91.
It anit no Ford... where you have to pull the whole dash off.
Remove the trim panel and vents, undo the screws, and pull a little to see where the cables go that are not plugged into the back directly, and reach under the drivers and passengers dash to unplug them.
Its like a 15 minute job.

Icemark and Josepi are most likely right. I've probably been doing it the hard way as usual. I remember trying to take the trim off and the first thing I touched broke(right in the center there was a screw holding down some small plastic piece and that piece crumbled). Try the trim or under the dash. I'm going to try it again tonite to see where I am going wrong.

Thanks guys,
sorry it took me so long to reply. i haven't had time. when i had mine replaced before i tried everything to try and find that plug, and i could not find it by going under the driver foot area. then i tried removing the plastic trim up by the windshield, and it broke one of the pieces and i said screw it. but i like the idea of removing the cluster. i just did that a little while ago to replace my spedo cable. and i have an aftermarket steering wheel so it comes of with 5 easy allen screws. let me know any updates about going from underneath though, that sounds easier. thanks.

under the drivers side is a pain in the ***. I finall got to it but there wasn't enough room to get in unplugged. Maybe if you have extemely small hands it is possible but I think Hailers way would be the best.
