It comes out when you take the end float bearings out. Just be careful not to scratch the e-shaft.

Haynes lol...

some people just wont let the good ol'(I say that sarcastically) haynes manual go in favor of the bigger, prettier, shinier, smarter factory service manual. IF you're a 7 owner, I cant stress enough how important this is in all areas of car maintenance. IT's the best 40-60 bucks you can spend...

Pics... need pics! If the e-shaft won't turn without the thrust washers in then I would question the main bearings. You should be able to have the car in neutral and put the front pulley on and turn the motor over. Take the leading plugs out and it should give you some resistance, but you should be able to spin it with moderate force.

Even if that section of the e-shaft is a bit hacked some emery cloth and elbow grease should bring it back to useable. Be very careful what gets near the motor with the front cover off. Cover the pan with something that keeps **** out of it. Do everything you can to keep the metal from the e-shaft out of the motor.

keep us posted

When you pull the gear what keeps the rotor in place so you can time it back , position it back. It seems easer and safer to pull the motor out.

The rotor is held in place by the e-shaft and the rotor housings at that point. It's pretty hard to **** it up. I wouldn't spin the motor without the gear in place for simplicity reasons more than not being able to get the gear back in right.
