Replacement Hoods

I know this has been covered before but I am looking for a fiberglass hood, N/A style, no silly vents, no drop venting, no huge scoops in the center. Just a plain hood in fiberglass. Has anyone EVER seen one or am I going to have to buy a 55 gallon drum of resin?

Cool, I got an email off to them already. I'd prefer fiberglass though to keep all costs down.

Oh I'm sorry I didn't notice I thought Gene had it right, what he linked to was H756-OE(CF), carbon fiber.

Sorry.

Keep in mind that any race hood will almost certainly have no provisions for the hinges or stock latch, and any Japanese hood will be TII style, as all FC's over there are turbos. I've never seen any composite NA style hood that's not a race hood or vented or something like that. Vents (not scoops) can definitely help cooling, so it's worth giving it some thought.

Or you can just buy one of those silly FG hood with vents and mod it(assuming they're small vents).

if yer gonna get an aftermarket hood at least add a duct for the radiator outlet keeping that heat out of the engine bay, unless you're really determined to get a sleeper look.

I can work with that as the underbody bracings will need to be removed and reworked anyway. If I had just the FG skin, I could work with that as well and build it up where it needs to be.

Yeah, that would be the idea here. Just not one that is as ******* ugly as all the ones offered. Except for the PanSpeed hood, I like that one. Just not the price

I have an Al hood that works and fits. I also have a steel hood that doesn't fit so well. i could work that one back into shape I guess but it would be a chore. Of course the benefit to that is easier welding and fairing. If all else fails I'll buy another AL hood and use the better of the two and probably just keep it AL. If I use the steel hood, you can bet your *** I'd be using the finished piece as a plug though

Can't be a TII hood, it needs to be an N/A hood. Thanks though, I didn't see any worthwhile links in there

A carbon fiber hood isn't much more expensive. Just get one and paint it.
Nothing says badass like a painted cf hood.

It's not a matter of money, it's a matter of how well the FG roven and resins will adhere to the CF hood

Also, most CF hoods are just FG hoods with a CF overlay, won't get you any lighter. If all you want is an FG skin to work from, AWR sells a race hood that's probably just that. It's got the headlight doors moulded in as one piece, but that can be fixed. Who knows, maybe if you talk to them they'll make one custom for you.

It's not about lightness, or venting - it's about workability. I want to make an effective dropvent hood for MY setup. All of the hoods except the Panspeed (ridiculoulsy expensive and hard to get) and the Atihun (not responding to emails) are Fugly. I can fiberglass, I can AL weld. I want a hood that will be a good starting point to build my own hood. In reality though, I think you're right and the best choice is going to be to butcher my AL or steel hood and work it to what I want it to be. A fiberglass hood would be a better starting point though but I can't work with a TII hood or something that already has vents in it. THe center of the hood MUST have the original N/A lines to it.

If you look at the description of the hood it says: "Eliminates head lamp doors". But like I said, that's easily remedied with some cutting.

I'd be afraid of cutting the headlights out. I'd imagine that there are alot of supports right around the edges that would be removed by cutting the alot. Then again, I would have alot of fiberglassing and supports to add anyway so it's still a viable option. I need to contact them and start looking for an N/A hood as well.
