Replacement door speakers for '90 vert?
Hi,
can anyone tell me what type of speakers will replace the existing door speakers above the armrest in my S5? I know the existing woofers are shallow and I want to avoid any cutting or using spacers if I can.
Thx

I used 6" 2-way speakers that needed a 6mm spacer ring to clear the glass. Magnet size is important to producing decent volume, so if you want to hear them clearly with the roof down, or just like loud music, plan on doing this. I just cut mine from MDF sheet.

I put in a set of Blaupunkt 6-1/2"components in my 90 vert. I mounted the tweeter flush above the a/c vent. It looks good and works very well. I took the door speaker out, removed the factory spacer, did a little grinding and drilled new mounting holes for the 6-1/2 woofer.
I also sprayed quite a bit of truckbed liner behind each speaker, 2 coats with dry time inbetween. Then I applied a layer of undercoating over the bedliner. Next I stuck a piece of roofing paper to the undercoating using another layer of undercoating. I followed this with another layer of undercoating. The idea is to make a laminate of materials with dissimilar vibration frequencies. This is supposed to yield a strong resistance to vibration and resonation. It worked fine, but my interior door panels still vibrate and I haven't been back into the door to attempt a fix. Probably a few little bits of foam in strategic places will help lots.
The whole thing sounds pretty good and looks clean.

Opinions are like........
It depends on what you are looking for, factory replacement normal sound quality or highend????
Crutchfield.com has a pretty good filtering method for finding what fits your vehicle. They tend to be expensive but friends of mind that bought from them recieved plenty of help and accesories that you don't get from the ebay stores.
I never considered using spacers. My OEM speakers just started to crackle a little and I too will need new speakers. Simple spacers add more options to speaker selections since I'm a 'closeout' and ebay shopper.
And, some shops have speaker mounts that allow various speakers to fit various size holes which might help.
