Renesis side housings?

Anyone know if these are gonna be available when the RX-8 comes out? is it possible to modify the 13bt side housing to the renesis spec. I was just reading the article in the Feb issue of Sport compact car......

Oh, they'll probably be available....for a price. After all, Mazda needs to be able to provide replacements.

It is not easily possible to modify the stock 13B housings for side exhaust ports. It is certainly possible, but will most likely cost more then just buying the Renesis housings.

wouldn't you need a new exhaust manifold and intake manifold as well?

Exhaust, yes. Intake? You shouldn't...

The Renesis is still a sideport engine, that still uses 5/6th port holes. As per the Exhaust ports... it might be possible to just either replace the Exhaust Sleeves in the Pre-Renesis housings, or even leave them in, and just have one hell of an exhaust port...

hehe, I like that idea, maybe we could get some templates and make our own? I like the Idea of the intake and exhaust not overlapping so the fuel is burned almost completly!

nope I believe there the same size, smaller rotors would mean a smaller engine but it is still a 13b, but a Renesis, they were just hollowed out and used aluminum instead of cast iron.

The same way you make an exhaust manifold for any engine. Get some piping, some bends, some flanges, and a welder. Weld it all up together.... nothing special just because it's a Renesis.

I personally think its a pretty stupid idea...but hey. Dont let that stop you.

Youd save money, and probably make more power, just porting out your stock housings.
As for the exhaust port; I thought you all liked backfires?

Now that I think about it, a major problem with turboing the renesis would be all of the light metals that are inside of it. Somewhere I recall hearing that light metals don't take to turbo's real well, such as an all aluminum block..

Stop criticizing him. With what, a projected 250 horse if you add a turbe, amongst other things you could have a serious engine. Granted at first it will be pricey.

To say that the new engine sucks is just stupid.

Endless Possibilities......
