RENESIS Engine Swap into 2nd gen?
Im doing a research project on Mazda and i ran across an article on the Renesis rotary....i did a brief search of this site and saw nothing about a swap. It seems like its 1000x better than oldschool rotaries? Whats the scoop? can we swap a Renesis into our 2nd gens? Is it worth it? Thanks ahead...

Really, who knows? We truly know very little about what the finished product will be like - where are the motor mounts? Is the intake manifold taller? Does it require a special computer to properly control it?
Might as well ask "When can I put a Jetsons hover conversion in my car - it should be out in the year 3000"
We just slap don't know - no sense worryin' about it.
Even when the RX-8 is released, is anyone actually gonna pony up and buy a NEW Renesis engine from Mazda? I shudder to think what it's gonna cost. It will be years until used ones show up that are reasonably priced, if that.

So you STILL have to wait for the cars to come out, then wait for some to get into the junkyard, and STILL have to pay an arm and 3 legs for one!
I remember back in Nov 85, I "needed" a new rear end for my old skool 80 TE72 'Rolla Auto-x monster. The AE86 had just been released in OCT and I WANTED that LSD Disc Brake rearend. A nationwide search found 1 rearend in the country in a "junkyard". $900 later I had it. And TRD said it wouldn't fit! Fools, it was an expensive bolt-in but worth it!.
Moral is, That motor will be 5-6k the first year after introduction in the states when purchased from a Junkyard, Plus 1.5-2K for an aftermarket computer to run it.

shooman, i want one of dem dere jetsonian pieces man! but seriously, i'm sure someone will do the renesis swap eventually, it's just a matter of cash and insanity. because really, does the rx8 chassis look anything like a second gen's? you'd have to be nuts to want to go through that hell.
I think the swap will be something favorable but expensive i think there will be atleast one company that makes mounts if neccesary and all that jazz but you also need an ecu and the wiring harness....Its gonna be like a japanese body kit from japan everyone will want it but only a few will get it
I know someone will buy an rx8 and trash it. Then we can yoink an engine from the junkyard
I guess a rich forum member will purchase it...see if it can be done. We'll have to check it out. One comes to this mazda dealer as soon as it comes out. So i will do some engine measurements!

Actually, I just read an article on Autoweek.com a while ago that said the new Mazda spec race cars will be using the same Renesis engine that the RX-8 will have. This means that there will have to be extra engines produced for the race teams. Hopefully the extra quantity produced will make more available to the public and lower the price. Maybe there will even be a crate engine package put together like the domestic V8s. That would be totally cool! Go to www.autoweek.com and search on "rotary" if you are interested in more info.

Hey i know the engines all better...but its rotary. the whole beginning idea behind rotary was its simpleness and low costs. Im thinking maybe 6 grand for the engine. 1 grand to install...that's with a tranny.
