The wastegate is internal, meaning inside the turbo's exhaust housing. You need to pull the turbo off, unbolt the exhaust housing from the center section (6 13mm bolts) and then take the back plate off to expose wastegate. As for gaskets, most in that area are metal, and if in good condition can be re-used. If they are all oringinal anyway, it would be a good idea to replace them. You'd want a engine-> manifold gasket, and manifold-> turbo gasket, and a turbo->downpipe gasket.

Well you need to pull the turbo, which would involve removing the downpipe, intercooler, TID. Then removing your oil and water lines, then you can get at the bolts, you can get the top two and the bottom right one from the top, and the bottom left nut needs to be removed from underneath the car.

Pull your turbo off, and then unbolt the cover on the rear of the turbo. This will expose the wastegate and flapper door. Port away, Remember to RTV your oil and water lines upon reinstallation. You might need the replacement gaskets for those tubes, and you will want to visually inspect the turbo -> DP gasket and the manifold to turbo.

How often do the gaskets (engine/manifold and turbo/manifold) go bad? I am planning to pull my turbo this weekend and port the wg. The turbo on my s5 tII has supposedly been rebuilt about 15k miles ago. Should it still be ok? Will RTV gasket work under the high heat temps of the turbo along with the gaskets?

You don't RTV the turbo gaskets, just the oil and water lines that run to/from the turbo.

Thanks for clearing that up f1bluerx7

bump for my the questions above concerning the gaskets? I probably will order the gaskets just in case but do they need to replaced everytime the turbo/manifold comes off? I would really like to avoid spending an extra $100 on gaskets for this wg porting project. As posted above the turbo was rebuilt about 15k miles ago if that makes a difference.
