removing vert roof panel

Anybody have the procedure, is it worth removing for the fall weather or will it just become a big air scoop?

I don't have the owner's manual for my '88 vert, it's not in the FSM. Thanks.

Yes

Go for it.

My 91 FSM has procedure in section S-79.
Looks like the Convertable web page is gone with Owner's Manual hosted.

Lower top with the targa top panel sticking up in the air. Remove the covers (I do not know of anyone who has them) on the hinges in each corner. Push in the hinge lock on the driver side and slide it upward. Push the hinge release levers and release the right and left hinge latch. Lift off the roof panel. Use two people to avoid damage to small hinges.

Next best thing to having the top all the way down. It is not a big wind scoop.

Turn on you heater.

Go to http://www.fc3s.org and look at the 88 FCM.

its actually rather pleasant with the targa off in the cooler weather, just a pain in the *** taking it off and putting it back on again

I should say a pain if your only going for a short trip

I've got an 88 and only took that Targa top off once. I thought it was scoop-city. Drove it for a day, then re-attached the top and dropped the top like regular.

Are you talking about taking the removable part off and putting the top back up? or are you talking about taking the targa part off when your top is down?

yeah..myself..i just think its easier to press the button.....and if it start to rain...like it does at anytime in sfla...then you just press the button and put it back up..no need to get out and pop the trunk etc...if i were in a more midwest area..whjere it gets cooler..i may use the targa more...but i doubt it..unless im in a winter time....bottom line is that its better to have...than to not have..thats why i love the vert!!

I agree. Whoever came up with that air deflector was a genius.

Mazda invented it and patented it for the FC! Remember that next time you're driving behind a Porsche Boxster or M-B SLK and notice a similar deflector.

Why would you hate it? It's a helluva lot more comfortable to drive with it up.
