Removing Thermostat

I have the plastic thermostat cover off and all I see on the thermostat is this metal loop and what appears to be a small jiggle pinnear the top. There doesn't seem to be anything holding this in place except for the cover I removed.

Do I just pull the jiggle pin or the metal loop or what?

I just want to know how to get this out as my fingers won't pull it out.
Thanks.

it just pulls out, nothing else holding it in.

the gasket might be holding it in tightly, try turning it / tapping lightly with a hammer..

Thanks. that's what I thought, I just didn't want to pull too hard. haynes manual doesn't give any detail on thermostat - just the cover.
