Wink removing the intake man

ok, i'm pretty new to machanics. so maybe you guys can help me out. i'm removing my intake man so that i can check my primary injectors. i've removed all of the vacum lines, elect connectors, but i have left the fuel and coolant lines connected. i removed the throttle cables, and undid the 4 bolts(opps theres a long one too) holding the the intake pipes. i then undid the bolts to hold the throttle body down. now i'm standing here wondering how in the %#^@ do i take this thing off, i doesn't seem to want to move, and i'm affraid of messing **** up.

i have an 87 n/a, now after i get this thing off, and check my injectors.............. how do i put it back on?, do i have to use a torque wrench?(my book doesn't say one thing about torque on the intake man), i am completely new to machanics, but i have trouble shoot it down the the fuel system...., when i connect the test connector to prime the fuel system, i hear pressure releasing, from what seems to be under the intake manafold, i figured primary injector is stuck open... the car will start, and immediatly die(nothing i can do will keep it running), and then flood

before i go any further, am i on the right track here?
is there something else that could be happening?

thanx

ps. this is what the car used to look like..

it is now in much worse shape, and i am working to fix the greatest car that i have ever owned

have you taken the plenum off?

I seem to remember having some of the same troubles as you (1990 NA)--i'll post a response when i get home and have a chance to look at the manifold. The plenum MAY just be stuck to the gasket -- try tapping it with a deadblow hammer (it may pop off).

I'll let you know what I find out!

That intake manifold gasket is nasty.&nbsp Just bang on it with a mallet.

I just torque it down to "tightenough". You can use the torque values, but just evenly tighen it down.&nbsp As a rule, you tighten from inside-out on the bolt pattern.

there are hidden bolts. just start taking things off (remember where they came from) It took my 4 hours to remove my intake the first time. ( i had a manual but didn't think about looking) I finally found the bolts giving my problems. it was one just behind the chamber after the throttle body. hidden by that little round thing with large vac lines connected to it. it is a pain in the ***. there is also a 10 mm bolt holding steel vac lines on the back of the intake next to the firewall. it is horisontil (sp)

Looks like your doing this blind and need to do some reading! Download the EFI chapter (#4) of the factory service manual from FC3S.org, I'd also buy a Haynes manual beacause the pictures are much better and very useful. Good luck!.

Yea,
Make sure that you have all of the bolts off and then start rocking it by hand or tapping it with a rubber mallet. They really stick if you haven't had it off before.
While you are in there, you might want to think about upgrading your old style pulsation damper with a 89+ type. It could save you a lot of hassle later, or maybe even an engine fire. The PD is on the end of the primary fuel rail, right where you are looking for trouble anyway.
