Removing door handle bolts

Maybe it is because I am pretty tired... but how would one go about removing the bolts that in the outer door handle? I have a GXL that is missing both bolts for some reason. I have two perfectly good ones in sitting in another door handle from my base model. Any suggestions?

By removing the door skin you can access the two 10mm nuts found behind the door handle. Real easy. You will obviously have to keep your window up when doing this. If you are swapping In the base handle (providing It's the driverside handle), you will lose the key hole Illumination lock. That Is, If you care for It.

*edit*

Take not on the position of the threaded rods that are used for the locking and opening of the door. Eitherwise, you will be fiddling around trying to remember their fully adjustable positions.

I am trying to keep the handle as it is black and my base one is red. I want to remove the bolts that are in the red base handle (if possible) and put them into the black GXL's handle.

Is that a Canadian thing..because Ive never seen this feature. At least my '86 GXL, my '88 Turbo2, my old 87 SE, a friends '88 GXL, and a '90 GXL that I have looked over never had it

What the removal of It? Or the Key Illumination? If It's the latter, I understand the GXL's and TII's have this.

*edit*

I've had a chance to reread your post Leonard. I dunno, you guys don't have this? On the driverside door lock, when you lift the handle up, the lock lights up for about 10 seconds. This, I guess, was Integrated to the door lock for fear of scratching the peripheral of the Handle when trying to unlock the door.

The handle has two 10mm *nuts* (I think?), and one removed while window is down while the other needs the window to be up.  There might be a plastic plug covering one of the access holes that needs to be removed on some cars.

I could have sworn that the window has to be up to access both nuts. That Is, If we are getting nitty gritty here.

It seems that we were both right. To access the nut to the Handle closest to the rear of the car (when Door Is closed), you have to have the Window down. There Is a slot/cutout that allows you to pass a ratchet through. To get to the other 2nd nut retain the Handle to the Door, one closest to the front of the car (when door It's closed), you have to have the Window up. You use a 10mm wrench to get to this.

remove the entire door panel (a 2 minute job) and you'll need an extension...the two 10mms are easy to get to - you may want to have someone hold the handle in place or you'll have to use 2 hands hehe

AcidShock Is mistaking Bolts for Nuts that retain the Handle to the Door, respectively. The Studs are mounted on the Handle, btw.

No... bolts = studs. I was pretty tired so I could not think of the word. The studs in my base handle had loctite or something on them so it did require some force to get out (which I did eventually). That is why I posted, because I thought there was a different way to get them out.
