Removing A/C

My A/C finally cashed out, its out of frion and I dont want to refill it. First question is how hard is it to remove the entire A/C system? Second, anyone know where to find a good howto for it?

There is Four bolts I believe on the actual compressor. If you still have power steering, this will be tricky. I would remove all of the lines first. You might get some goo out of the lines, but I didn't. The condensor is the hard part. You will need to be very patient and sort of massage it out of there. All in all it took me about two hours to remove the entire system minus the equipment under the dash. If your power steering is still in there, it will be tight corners trying to get at the bolts, but I believe in you! Just keep saying to yourself, "it doesn't hurt that bad" or "it's just a lil blood." You will also be able to remove a pully if my memory is correct. Although the pully I am thinking of may have been for the PS too. My memory aint to great; I'm already starting to forget what I'm talking about. Oh yeah; AC! You will need to dispose of the equipment at your nearest illegal dumping zone, or you can pay someone I think. Once you're done, you will probably want to start removing just about everything from the car that is not essentialy needed. Removing the AC was what got me started.

Well, there are 2 different compressors. A Sanden one and a Mitusbishi one. Here is how I removed mine off of a 91.

1:Remove the drier, the little canister in front of the radiator, it is inline in the a/c lines. I actually just used a srescent wrench to loosen both fittings, and removed the lines.
2:Remove the lines going into the fire wall. Once again, use the crescent wrench. You will have 2 little hoses sticking out of the firewall. Make sure and seal those, or fumes will enter the cabin.
3:Remove the lines attached paralell to the firewall that go across from the drier to the compressor on the driver's side.
4:Unbolt the 4 bolts from the comprosessor that hold it to the block. These are VERY hard to get at, espically the bottom 2.
5:Unbolt the hoses from the compressor and remove the hoses and compressor.
6:Now this step you need to remove the raditaor. In front of the radiatoe is the condensor. You really do not need to do this, but it no longer needed. I am not removing mine till I oull my engine.

You can remove the condensor without removing the radiator. That is how I did it. Like I said, it just takes some patience and a lil messaging.

And the two lines on the power steering pump are right on top of the unit where the steering shaft goes into it. You could leave the two lines attached to it and just connect the rubber lines together, or you can remove the lines all together and get a custom line to attach them. Once you get the pump out, it will be obvious what you need to do. I now have a manual rack; and recommend doing the swap to anyone who wants to loose the PS but still wants to drive around a parking lot and still be able to use one hand for signaling fine women.

How did you remove the condensor w/o removing the radiator? It is in front of the radiator...You ca't even get to the bolts that hold it on w/ the radiator on.

You need to use a wrench. It will take some wierd bendign of your arms, wrists, and fingers. But I took out mine without removing the radiator so it can be done. Maybe you are thinking about trying to remove it from the top. Once you remove the lower splash pan, it it right there in your face. The hard part is that the lines on top will get caught on things on thier way out. Even if you remove the lines, the fittings for them will still be a pain in the ***. But believe me! It will come out. Unless I have some special edition 7 that had a unique AC design. Just go take off the splash guard and have a look. I bet you'll figure it out.

Cool thanks for all the info samps, and yes you are right I am already eyeing all sorts of parts that I just dont "need". And that its just a little blood thing was something I had to keep saying to myself with the !?!?$#?!? exhaust, it all was easy except getting one bolt off the precat....getting angry just talking lol! Anyways thanks for the advice!

I pulled my condensor w/o pullling my radiaor with help of SLOWT2, if you unbolt the oil cooler and remove all that plastic deflector stuff on bottem of car, just push oil cooler out of way and condenser just falls out of car after u unbolt all freon lines going to it
