Removing air pump (whats its use)?

OK guys I am planning to clean up the engine bay, and getting rid of things I dont need.

I am in the mist of gonna remove my air conditiong setup
removed both cats replacing with RB down pipe and pre silencer (so I can keep the 6th port actuators)
removed un used crank pulleys (power steering and air conditioning)

next is to remove the air pump. My car is a 86' n/t 5spd what is the real use for the air pump? I dont have emissions testing so if it is not needed what all will I need to do to remove the air pump?

To remove the air pump, I think you just remove it and and ACV, and block of the acv space. You should get the block off plate with the downpipe combo. If you don't I might have a spare laying around I can sell for cheap.
The point of the airpump on s4's is entirely emmissions related. It just blows air into the cats to help them be more efficient and not be quite as hot.

Well, if you buy the dp/presilencer combo from racing beat then if comes with all of the blockoff hardware already. I think I have all it somewhere because my stuff was already blocked off. I had the bonez race pipe already, but replaced it because it was cheap and the flange was warped.

Quote from mazdatrix "Large back-fire on deceleration and/or between shifts usually means this valve is no good" (referring to the ACV) Removing the ACV won't cause any problems here will it?

Yeah, you'll backfire. Big deal, part of the fun of a rotary is shooing flames. As for the downpipe, that is what Racing Beat calls the pipe that connects the stock exhaust manifold to their presilencer. When you think about it it makes sense, becuase its basically with the turbo downpipe does.

No, headers replace the stock exhaust manifold.

thanks rx713b.

SpooledupRacing - You should look into the dual belt alternator pulley as well, from what I have read, without the 2nd belt on the water pump, it can slip, and well, cause problems.

No. The technical name of the BAC is the Bypass Air Control Valve, and apparently they get confused sometimes, but they are totally different.
