Mines been off for 8 months or so and like it way better that way. It must have weighed 40 or so lbs. You may notice your throttle response feels a little better, but the gain is pretty miniscual. Even in parking lots its not that bad turning the wheel without PS.

so you have to get a manual rack when you take the pump off and dont just loop it or whatever? im confused on how to do it

I've been driving with mine offline for about nine months now. I'm too lazy at this time to fully remove it. I'll eventually remove it. Mostly to make more room under my hood. Plus some weight savings. For the past month I've had a 320mm Momo wheel. No problems at all. This is on an '89T2.
