Removal of UIM... HELP!!

ok i have removed what i think is every bolt to take off the UIM and it's not sliding off.... i count five that i have removed and i am in the process of taking out the one that is closest to the firewall attatched to the brace. Am i missing anything? Also, the bolt closest to the firewall is not budging and i'm scared i'm going to strip it. It's at a tough angle does anyone know of any tricks to make it easier to remove this bolt?

You might have to take off the vacuum spider, along with a bunch of vac lines to get it off. That's how I got mine off my S5 TII motor.

Check the Haynes manual or the FSM, both of which can be downloaded FREE. There's links in the FAQ. Check it out.

The Haynes manual sucks that's what i have... i kno i will have to remove other things but once you take off all the bolts it should slide out and mine is not budging. Where are the two on the drivers side?

I'm gonna have to disagree with that 100%. Look over the diagram again, and make sure everything is unbolted/ removed that is necessary.

Go to page 58. There's step by step instructions on how to do it.

Dont forget the bolt in the TB that holds it onto the intercooler frame. also the hose that is under the UIM. Just losen the clip on the hose where it goes into the eng and then just pull it off when you pull the Mani. Use a 1/2" or 3/4" drive ratchet and jsut give the ratchet a couple of smacks with your palm to try break the lock. Dont put to much direct force on it tho as you may strip or snap the bolt. A few sharp solid wacks and it should come lose

Sometimes you can check over the FSM after looking at the Haynes. Often, one has something the other may not have, and vice versa.

Good luck, man!! Spray some PBlaster or something on that bolt and let it soak in for a bit. It might help in loosening it up.

you can try tapping on the bolt with a hammer/putt a socket on it to protect it. it helps to loosen the threads a little. its called warming the threads

Yeah that is a good point. I think im going to call it a night but spraying it with some Pblaster wouldnt hurt. Tomorrow i will spray it and try the wrench again and whack the hell out of it. I just don't wanna resort to the vicegrip cuz thats all or nothing and if it doesn't work the bolt will be completely worn down.

Are you using a six-point socket? Those grip better than the 12 point ones.

Yeah i'm using six point. But since my tools are somewhat limited i don't have the short six point sockets in the right size which means to use the extensions i have to use the 12 point which wears the bolt further. Oh and by vicegrip i mean the vicegrip wrench... idk if that is the real name for it but thats what i call it lol .

ohhhhh f@ck. hmmmmm ok. this is what i reckon, but ur gona have to be paitent and wait over night. go a source a 12mm socket that you are happy to throw away. get some sort of hi quality plastic weld stuff/ metal weld ( in a tube or that you pre mix ) superglue. put it all over the put and stick the socket on it and leave it to cure overnight ( you will have to do this ) then come back 24hrs later and put your ratchet in there and out it comes. ( are you sure your not doing it up?)

the gasket can make it difficult to remove the manifold...a hit by a rubber mallet ususally does the trick!
i had to give mine a decent hit to get it off.
