Remanufactured water pump.Anybody used one?

Has anyone here ever used a remanufactured water oump from a local auto parts store. There is no Mazda dealer in my area and I don't really have the coin for one from the dealer if there was and I don't want to wait a week for one from Mazdatrix and my brother-in-law works at the parts store and can get me a deal on one probably.Any experience with one anyone? Thanks.

I'm sure most are fine. but I put one on. and couldn't rev past 4000rpm. the whole engine and car shook. I guess the shaft was bent or something so the pulley would wobble. I had to redo everthing to put a mazda one back on a few days later. and was fine after.

I don't mean to hijack your thread, but when is it recommended to change the waterpump? My car has 60k miles on it, and we've rebuilt the engine and are putting it back in the car this weekend. I bought the car after it had been sitting in a garage for years. Just wondering if we should bother with the waterpump while were at it. I think most of the time it is replaced around 80k miles correct?

normaly you just replace it when it starts leaking. mine started leaking around 80-90k miles I think. the leaking means the seal inside is gone.

I would have done it with the rebuild. since you had to do the work anyways.

My original one lasted till around 170k miles.I replaced it with a used one from my parts car that had 130k on it but had been sitting dry a few months. Its lasted a year or 10 to 15k now it's leaking out the weep hole. Thanks for the offer Project84 but I think I'm going to try my hand with the remaned one.

I used one from our Advance Auto, I think has a lifetime warranty on it. Works alot better than my original did after 140k, actually seems to build proper pressure in the water system now. Just a suggestion though, paint it before installing it, mine looks absolutely horrible after less than a year with exterior rust. I'm actually thinking of removing it to clean it up and refinish the exterior of the pump.
