Reducing weight on the flywheel

Hi guys,

I just bought a new clutch kit and I was thinking that when I change the clutch I could reduce some weight on the flywheel.

I would like to know if you guys recommend this or not. And what are the advantages and disadvantages of this modification on a S4 N/A.

Thanks.

Because the flywheel is other counterweight to the engine I would not recommend having someone try to remove material, because odds are the unit will no longer be balanced. If you want to go that route get a atx counterweight that matches you engine series and a lightweight flywheel.

Like he said. You need a counterweight because the factory counter weight is built into the flywheel.

its been done, but the more weight you take off the more unsafe it gets.

IMO you're better off spending that extra cash to get an aftermarket flywheel. better safe than sorry when it comes to main components like that.

I think I'm going to do that... I'll wait a bit more and spend some more cash on a new lightweght flywheel.
As you said, "better safe than sorry" and I really don't want to have more problems with the car.

Thanks for your oppinions!

Just remember, as SpikeDerailed said, you need to get an Automatic Transmission cars' front counterweight if you go with a light weight flywheel.

That's really important

the engine will free rev more quickly but it will also be more prone to stalling and a little trickier to get moving from a dead stop

automatic transmission cars have counter wights in the rear. I could be wrong, but I don't think the front one would work. most people that sell flywheels sell the counter also.

the rear counter weight that the atx flex plate bolts to is what the aftermarket flywheel will bolt to.
