It prevents carbon from building up on the rotors, and if it's NA it will open the 5th/6th ports, which if go for a long time without opening will seal shut.

Also it's good for the driver. It's just plain fun. I do it at least a couple times a week, but my car sees at least 5k daily.

I redline mine at least 15-20 times a day. I love it, and the car loves it. It tells me so.

Everything has a trade off. Sure, driving the car hard wil prevent additional carbon buildup, but it will also wear out the motor more quickly as mroe heat/friction/load certainly doesn't make parts last longer. Maintain the car well and enjoy it, it's all you can do

i do it 3 to 5 times a day depending on my mood and traffic, sometimes not at all but as long as you can afford the gas there's no problems doing it semi often. just avoid doing it when its really hot and humid and you have to sit in traffic, the heat buildup is not very good for the car, as with any car.

I have a long drive to work and usually redline it through first and second several times on the open interstate. 15-20 is actually on a day where I feel like driving fast though. More like 10 on normal days I guess. However, my N/A has 205k miles on it with 120 k on the engine and it still purrs like a kitten. If its hard on anything, its the transmission...not the engine.

I haven't redlined since rotorfest trying to shoot flames. My poor GTUs doesn't get to see much action around here

No, that's not really normal. If it keeps doing that it's possible your seals are getting worn and are leaking at very high RPM

hmm... it wasnt really warmed up though (could that have something to do with it?)... i was checking my fuel pump voltage and i told my assistant to go to WOT up to about 5k..... of course they thought i said "all the way"

White smoke is oil? or fuel?

SOrry to thread jack, i just thought this was a good oppurtunity to not start a new thread

White smoke is neither oil nor fuel. It's coolant.

Thats because that is not a smart thing to do. I bet it was oil... Just for the record, I can't stand people who do that at shows/meets. I'm always asking myself WHY??

Doesn't make too much sense to me to be coolant, I don't think the pressure rises as the revs rise like oil pressure. I could be wrong though...

If coolant began to seep through, it wouldn't have stopped. And you can't stand people who do what, shoot flames? I had to show those damn turbo guys with their haltechs what a stock port N/a on the stock ECU could do.

on my n/a, if im having fun or if theirs a tailgater i will rev to 7500 or smack rev lmit and i usually get about 2 big flames and a ploom of smoke to warn them off, the moke is grey, only get it on flames. Hmmm as for redlining usually about 5 times a day. I use a bit extra premix just as a percausion for my driving.

I always like redlining in first gear on regular roads because I can usually get up to 45 or so, so then I just throw it to fifth and cruise normally. 1st to 5th... mwhahaha

I probably hit redline backing out of the driveway. I don't understand why anyone would own an older sports car if they're just going to drive like grandma.

I don't really keep track. I don't put a lot of miles on my car. I do go for a 'spirited' ride most weeks, when i can.
